As best described by Maryam Ebrahimi, Edelgrund’s director: “Our tribes are very proud of their culture and traditions and that includes carpet designs! It’s not always easy to ask them to break tradition and weave something different. We have to walk them through each step and change things little by little. Edelgrund’s weavers aren’t centralised in one location, they are all freelancers, working of their own free will from their own homes. As a result, introducing new weaving techniques and new designs can be quite challenging but we wouldn’t have it any other way. The Gabbeh hall runner collection was our first attempt at asking our weavers to craft rugs in a single colour with a flat-weave border. What started as a trial has now grown into a limited edition hall runner series. Let’s see where this takes us.”
